Elmer Senior Citizens
Macon county senior citizens organized in 1966. The Elmer Senior Citizens organization held their first meeting in April of 1972. Officers were Mrs. Crystal Dunlap, president; Clara Bonifield, secretary-treasurer; and Mrs. Lois Sprague, Bevier, Missouri, director. Later Mrs. Maudie Magers was president and Mrs. Erma Berti was director. The OATS bus started in Elmer in 1973, and also “Meals on Wheels? For shut-ins.
Meetings are held on the third Monday of each month with a pot5-luck carry-in dinner, followed with a program, a door prize and Bingo.
Elmer senior citizen activities have included: making cancer dressings; lap robes for the needy; taking trips on chartered buses; attending all-county picnic meetings held in “Floral Hall” in Macon; assisting with musical programs presented by Cecil Ford in Atlanta, Missouri; and visiting with and entertaining other clubs.
